Thanks for sharing. Good info. Puzzles and oral language do help to build children’s thinking processes. Build children’s memories with oral language and knowledge through talking and reading aloud and then talking about the read-alouds you’ve shared.

I would hire a QUALIFIED babysitter. Period. End of story. I don't care what they look like, what their gender is, their sexual orientation, their past, or what they do in their free time. Qualification is key.

Not likely.

Piercings gross me out, I can't stand to look at them. I will have to talk to my child's care taker… I can't talk to people with piercings in their face without thinking how much it disgusts me, so I try to avoid it whenever I can.

Your personal fashion is your own choice I would always defend you have the right to do with your body as you wish.

However I also have the right to not have to look at people with metal things poking out their face and body parts.

I'm of two minds on this topic. On one hand I believe that it is your business if you want to have these piercings…just keep them empty when you are working (regardless of the type of work). But then again….maybe we shouldn't care about that sort of thing as long as the person is responsible, mature, professional and do their job to the best of their ability.

I guess I would probably ask they not be worn during the time you were watching my children (this is if you passe my interview, had good reference, and I wanted to hire you.

** that wouldn't give you any brownie points with an older couple. i wouldn't advise it and would ask them how they feel about. they are your employer and have a right to tell you how they want their family to be represented.

I would hire a nanny/babysitter with piercings. Having piercings does not make you a bad person, its a form of self expression. I have seen nurses in hospitals with full sleeve tatoos. So what's the difference.

I would look for experience. Like, I'd want someone who ideally was already a nanny before, or had at least been a baby sitter for a few years.

Qualifications: They should know CPR, and it wouldn't hurt if they'd had some parenting classes of some sort, but I woudn't require those.

When we interviewed, I'd want them to be clean, dressed appropriately (no hoochie shorts w/ butt cheeks hanging out, or boobs showing mega cleavage or anything like that), and have a sweet/modest attitude about them. I would want to have the impression that they would be willing to please me and go by my standards concerning my children.

When they were w/ my children I'd expect them to be patient, but caring. But, I would want them to be stern in a way, too.. My kids are the type who will take a mile if you give in an inch and they would walk over someone who was an obvious pushover. And I would look for organization! I'd see if they asked the children to put their toys away, or if they automatically starting putting them away themselves. I wouldn't want a messy nanny.

Something that would impress me would be if they offered to tell you WHY they wanted to become a nanny w/out being prompted by you to say.

To be licensed and insured as a nanny, first aid and CPR. Clean background check, presentable appearance and what services they would offer. If they have homeschooling skills or have taught young children. Ask them if you can call their references, if they say no that's not good. Plus it's just the general feeling you get with them. You are trusting them with your kids so they have to be trustworthy.
